Huelgoat and surrounding places of interest
Huelgoat has plenty to occupy you with lovely walks around the lake and in the forest, along with numerous restaurants, bars, shops and creperies.
However, should you wish to venture further afield, Brittany is renowned for its beautiful scenery. There are over 600km of coastline with fabulous sandy beaches, rocky coves, dramatic cliffs, pretty harbours and offshore islands to explore.
The North and West coasts are easily accessible from Huelgoat for days or half days out and you will be spoilt for choice. Why not take the opportunity to step back in time and take a boat trip to the Ile de Brehat?
Inland there are woodlands, lakes, rivers, and charming historic towns and villages to visit.
Just west of Huelgoat, about 15 minutes drive away is Lac du Drennec , a lovely inland lake which has sandy beaches along its shores, a playground for the children and a lakeside café/bar.
If you fancy shopping in a large town, then Carhaix and Morlaix are the nearest ones. Quimper, about an hour’s drive south, is also worth a visit.
Brittany’s South coast is a bit further away, about an hour’s drive. Again, the coastline here is stunning, with traditional seaside towns, bars, restaurants and boat trips available.
We hope you enjoy our photo albums.

Brehat is actually an archipelago composed of two main islands, separated only at
high tide, and many smaller ones. It is famous for its pink granite rocks, very mild
climate and Mediterranean vegetation, due to the warm Gulf Stream coming from across
the Atlantic.
Many day-trippers come to Brehat every day by the ferry service (les Vedettes de
Bréhat) and visit the main tourist attractions, the Paon & Rosedo lighthouses, the
St-Michel chapel, the Guerzido beach, the Birlot water-mill and the Verrerie of Bréhat.
Completed in 1982, this artificial reservoir is supplied in by the rivers Elorn and
Mougau. It supplies water to one part of Finistère north, including Brest Metropole
Oceane , Landerneau and Landivisiau .
The facilities at Lac du Drennec allow activities such as sailing, swimming and you
can hike on the surrounding trails.
Located in the heart of Brittany, less than an hour from major cities in Britain
and the western sea, Carhaix enjoys a strategic location and an exceptional location
between the Black Mountains and Arrée Mountains.
The old quarter of the town has winding streets of cobbled stones and overhanging
houses constructed of stone and timber. Many have religious and secular sculptures
on their facades.
Quimper is the ancient capital of La Cornouaille, Brittany’s most traditional region,
and has a distinctive Breton character. Shops and flags celebrating the region's
Celtic heritage can be found throughout the city.
